Achilleas Kallakis (of cold deck fame) raided by the SFO
April 4, 2009
The Sunday Times (London) today reported that Achilleas Kallakis, the enigmatic high-stakes poker player, recently had three properties raided by the Serious Fraud Office. It is alleged that the SFO suspects that Kallakis had obtained bank loans by fraudulent means in order to build his successful property empire. The SFO is investigating possible fraud at Allied Irish Banks and suspects that Kallakis used a blue-chip company to guarantee fraudulent lease payments to the bank.
All this is quite a turnaround for Kallakis, who has in recent times spent close to £1bn on property. Poker fans will especially remember Kallakis’ involvement in a famous televised hand where he held AA vs KK and QQ hand only for both a K and a Q to fall on the flop and river.
