PokerRoom.com says goodbye to the world of online poker

Yesterday, PokerRoom.com ceased trading 30 days after its parent company announced that it would be shut down.

Bwin, PokerRooms parent company has its own poker website and has sent offers to all of the pokerroom players trying to entice them over to their platform. http://www.pokernews.com/bwin-poker/

When it was created in 1999 it was a pioneer in it’s field. It was the brainchild of Swedish poker players Oskar Hörnell and Claes Lidell, with
Oskar bringing in his brother, a computer programmer to help with its construction.

Over the years PokerRoom grew to consistently be one of the best places to play poker on the internet, with them in increasing their poker offerings to Omaha, omaha hi-low and seven card Stud early on.

They then joined the Ongame network, becoming that networks most recognised poker site until Ongame e-solutions were purchased by Australian company Betandwin.

(Bwin) Later that year, the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act came into force leading to PokerRoom’s exit from the American market.

Although initially the numbers held up quite well, over time the site mainly down to competitors offerings couldn’t keep up leading to Bwin’s decision to close it down.
