PokerStars Announces First Stop of LAPT Season Two Dates!
October 11, 2008
Dates for the Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT) Season Two hosted by PokerStars, have recently been announced. The inaugural PokerStars LAPT was very successful so it only made sense for PokerStars to hold another one. This year’s tour will begin on November 3rd and run through November 5th in the tropical paradise of San Jose, Costa Rica at the Herradura Resort Conference Center .
With a $1 Million Guaranteed Prize Pool, the first event will offer up a $3,500 +200 buy in. The remaining LAPT events will have the same buy-in amounts except for the Championship Event which will hold a $5,000 + $200 buy-in amount. The LAPT Season Two will boast double the locations from last season and will run until April, 2009. Six stops on the Tour will include Costa Rica, Mexico, Uruguay, Argentina and Brazil.
LAPT President Glenn Cademartori announced, “PokerStars LAPT Season One was defined by ground breaking debut success. Season Two will be defined by growth and expansion as we fully spread the tour across Latin America. We were so overwhelmed with the success of LAPT Season One, that we wanted to come back with Season Two straight away, moving it into the high-season for Latin American tourism.”
The first stop during Season One brought 398 players to the San Jose event and overall in the three events, 1,063 players competed. Included in that number were 457 players who qualified through PokerStars satellites. The total prize pool offered during Season One was $2,601,325. In fact, PokerStars qualifier Valdemar Kwaysser won the first event of last year’s stop in San Jose with winnings of $274,103. Daniel Negreanu and Isabelle Mercier from Team PokerStars played in last year’s LAPT as well as Costa Rican poker pro Humberto Brenes. Organizers are hopeful that additional PokerStars pros as well as online qualifiers will grace the tables during this year’s Tour.
LAPT Season Two satellites are running daily through PokerStars.com and online players have the opportunity to win prize packages. Awarded to top players will be the Main Event buy-in, four night’s luxury hotel accommodations and spending money for additional expenses.
