New Zealand will hold what is expected to be their grandest poker tournament, the inaugural PokerStars Asia Pacific Poker Tour SKYCITY Festival of Poker. The tournament will run from October 4th through October 12th and will offer up a $1 Million Guaranteed prize pool. The Festival of Poker is anticipated to have hundreds of entrants flocking to the event. The week long tournament will be filled with single and multi-table satellites which culminates into a three day APPT Auckland Main Event.
Several of the world’s top poker champions will be in attendance including Joe Hachem, Greg Raymer, Chris Moneymaker, Grant Levy, Lee Nelson, Emad Tahtouh and Eric Assadourian. The poker pros along with amateur poker players will be competing against each other at the SKYCITY Casino in Auckland, New Zealand.
2006 Aussie Millions Champ and Team PokerStars member, Lee Nelson said, “I am thrilled to be able to play in a tournament of this quality on home soil. With the numbers expected for the event and the prize pool at stake, there is a good chance that new local talent will be discovered and the title will be taken by a New Zealander.”
Players can enter the tournament through a series of Super Satellite tournaments held at the SKYCITY Casino, the Walker-Hill Casino in Seoul, the Grand Waldo Casino in Macau, Star City Casino in Sydney, and the Crown Casino in Melborne. In addition, players can enter through several online Satellites that are available at PokerStars. The Festival’s organizers are optimistic the tournament will be the spark that ignites the poker flame in New Zealand. They are also hopeful that local players will become impassioned by playing with such high caliber of poker champions.
Ejaaz Dean, SkyCity’s Executive Manger, stated, “We are committed to making SKYCITY the home of New Zealand poker. We want the SKYCITY Festival of Poker to become an annual fixture on the world poker circuit and an absolute must for all top poker players.”
