Vivek Rajkumar Reigns At 2008 WPT Borgata Poker Open Final Table

September 18, 2008

Vivek Rajkumar brought down the house at the 2008 WPT Borgata Poker Open.   From of a field of 516 players, he finished in first place and earned a cash prize of $1,424,500.  Rajkumar also won the precious WPT bracelet and a $25,000 seat in the Season VII WPT Championship in April, 2009, which will be held at the Bellagio.

He accomplished the feat of this final table win in just 48 hands - or roughly three hours - and created World Poker Tour history as the fastest win ever recorded.  Prior to the opening hand being dealt, the opening chip count of the day was:

Seat 1 with Vivek Rajkumar - 6,480,000
Seat 2 with Dan Heimiller - 3,360,000
Seat 3 with Andrew Knee - 1,475,000
Seat 4 with Mark Seif - 4,665,000
Seat 5 with Jason Strochak - 1,650,000
Seat 6 with Sang Kim - 3,085,000

The final hand found Rajkumar in heads up action against Sang Kim.  With the dealer button, Rajkumar raised to 550,000.   Kim then re-raised the action to 1,050,000, prompting Rajkumar to 3-bet it to 2,500,000.   The next move was Sang Kim pushing all in and Vivek quickly calling.  Sang’s As Qh had Vivek’s Ad Js completely dominated heading into the flop.  However, Vivek’s luck turned for the better as he spiked a Jack on the flop of Jd - 10s - 7s.  Sang’s last hope to steal away this pot was one of the three remaining Queens.  Unfortunately for him the turn and the river were an unhelpful Ah and 8s, giving Season VII of the Borgata Poker Open to twenty-two year old Vivek Rajkumar.  Sang Kim walked away with $750,000 for his 2nd place efforts.

Vivek has been quite successful in his tournament achievements so early in his poker career.  To date, he has gathered eight WSOP cashes, with one WSOP final table, and three WPT cashes and one LA Poker Classic cash win.
