Will Matusow Break His ‘Poker After Dark’ Losing Streak?
September 22, 2008
Intriguing episodes of the popular late night show on NBC, Poker After Dark will be brought to television viewers this week with the themed title ‘Mission Impossible’. The poker match title is satirical in nature because of the uncharacteristic failings of world class poker pro Mike Matusow in past episodes. To date, he has made eleven appearances on Poker After Dark and hasn’t won a single match. Although he’s seen a good record of wins in past poker tournaments and championships, his success has somehow eluded him on this television show.
The highly celebrated Matusow has already suffered eight straight losses for his efforts on Poker After Dark and hopes not to make this his ninth. Tonight begins his mission to overthrow his opponents all of whom has earned at least one win on the show. Featuring some of the best poker players in the world, Matusow’s foes will include Phil Hellmuth, Phil Laak, David Williams, Gavin Smith and Clonie Gowen. To enter the tournament, each player pays a $20,000 buy-in and the winner walks away with $120,000. It’s rumored that Gowen will be Matusow’s strongest contender as she has won two of her four matches she has played in. If Gowen comes out on top at the end of ‘Mission Impossible‘, she’ll accompany fellow poker players Johnny Chan and Phil Hellmuth as the only players to win three matches in Poker After Dark history.
The match begins tonight at 2:05a.m. on NBC and will continue for five nights in a row during the same time slot. Saturday, September 27th, Poker After Dark will feature a special show titled ‘Director’s Cut’ full of excerpts and bloopers from the previous five days; it will air at 1:05 a.m. Viewers can also catch Matusow in action to see if he can break his PAD curse on www.nbcsports/msnbc.com/poker.
