Yevgeniy Timoshenko Wins 2008 Asian Poker Tour Macau

September 2, 2008

Last night brought the conclusion of the 2008 Asian Poker Tour Macau.  In final table domination Yevgeniy Timoshenko took down the house with an overwhelming chip lead, winning $500K.

Several of Timoshenko’s opponents who gathered for the event held at the Galaxy StarWorld Hotel and Casino included several A-list poker players.  Doyle Brunson, Todd Brunson, Johnny Chan, Liz Lieu, J.C. Tran, Kenny Tran and Nam Le were just some of the names that participated in this high stakes action poker tournament.

The APT Macau had a $5,300 buy-in and ended up with an overlay due to the lower than anticipated volume of registrants which was needed to comprise the $1.5 Guaranteed prize pool.  The APT however, stepped up to the plate to make up the difference for Timoshenko’s share of the guaranteed.  The Ukrainian poker player from the United States was also awarded the trophy.

The APT which is the original as well as largest poker tour in Asia was newly acquired by AsianLogic.  Expansion plans for the Tour are already underway for next year with the intent to increase the current four event tour to a total of six events across Asia; each offering a minimum $1 Million prize pool.

Jooh Hee Yeah who came into the final table with 257,000 chips in comparison to Tomoshenkos’s 2,300,000 chips fought a good battle as well and placed second in the event with a cash prize of $250K.
